Introduction of new accessible ATMs in Luxembourg

At the initiative of the Surveillance Authority for the Accessibility of Products and Services (OSAPS), Luxconstellation organized tests with people with disabilities to evaluate the accessibility of the new automated teller machines (ATMs).

LuxConstellation is the Luxembourg-based company created to carry out the project for a unified and shared network of ATMs by five major players in the Luxembourg financial sector.

In the future, the new ATMs will be equipped with a voice guide, accessible via headphones connected to the machine. This voice guide provides detailed instructions throughout the process. It is particularly useful for visually impaired customers, guiding them in using the card reader, the keypad, and the slot through which they retrieve their cash.

Simply plug in the headphone jack, and a voice will then guide you very clearly through each step of the transaction.

To use the vending machine, simply enter your PIN on the small keypad. The machine currently supports English, German, French, and Portuguese. Luxembourgish is currently available only on the screen.

Apart from a few minor details that still need improvement, the ATMs are easily accessible to people with visual impairments. LuxConstellation will now begin installing these new ATMs over the coming months and years.

However, the banks themselves will remain responsible for ensuring physical access to these ATMs.
